Emergency repair kit:
Relief for stressful situations
An angler
never leaves home without his tackle boxes or rods and reels. But, what about an
emergency repair kit?
Our kit contains items capable of salvaging a fishing trip. Included items are
replacement tip guides for rods, a small butane lighter (camouflage-colored, of
course) and clear nail polish. Also included are Super Glue, Chapstik, Vasoline
and a stick of glue. Our entire kit fits into a small pocket tackle box or
plastic zip-lock bag.
Broken rod tip?
If the tip guide from one of your rods breaks, use the lighter to gently heat it. Be sure to use pliers to hold it! Once removed, scrape off the old glue with a knife blade. Heat the glue stick (those you would use with a hot glue gun) and apply some to the rod's tip. Immediately position the new tip. The rod is ready for use when the glue cools.
Loose rod wrapping thread?
First aid for fraying threads on a rod consists of applying a coating of clear nail polish over the area. This will keep the frayed area from unraveling. A permanent repair can be accomplished at home after your fishing trip.
Loose plastic trailers or skirts?
Use Super Glue to keep your plastic bait trailers or skirts in place on spinnerbaits and other lures. A drop applied to the top of the lure's hook shank will do the job.
Line won't float?
Applying a light coating of Chapstik to fishing line will make it float.
Wrestling with pork rind jar lids?
A thin layer of vasoline around the neck of a jar of pork rind baits will prevent the brine from rusting the threads of the lid. The lid will now twist off as easily as it did the first time you used the jar.
